This simple medieval dress can be worn on its own or used as an undergarment, making it a versatile addition to your costume.

Historically, women of all social classes in medieval and early modern Europe wore an undergarment under their outer garment. Linen was the most popular choice and was increasingly replaced by cotton after the Renaissance as it became more readily available in Europe. Linen was comfortable on the skin, easy to wash and protected the outer garment from sweat and body oils.

Based on historical models, this dress has a classic rectangle-and-triangle cut. It reaches to the ankle, has long sleeves and a simple, round neckline - making it suitable for most eras from the early Middle Ages to the High Middle Ages and early Renaissance.

Its shape and style make it a very versatile garment, ideal for reenactment, LARP, SCA and historical or fantasy costumes.

The body of the dress consists of rectangular panels, with side yokes that give the skirt more width. It has a round neckline and set-in sleeves. The hem and sleeve cuffs are hemmed with a double fold, the neckline is finished with a facing made from the same fabric and stitched in place. The inside seams are overlocked and the armholes are also topstitched. All seams are machine stitched.

Material: 87% cotton, 13% linen
