Medieval cotehardie made of linen for depictions of the late 14th or 15th century. The dress is floor-length, without a waist seam, laced at the front and has short sleeves - just like the historical models of the time. These dresses were widespread in the 14th and 15th centuries - across many social classes and regions. This makes it ideal for reenactment, LARP or medieval markets.
This dress makes a great base for your costume. You can wear it solo, over an underdress, with detachable sleeves or other accessories, or even under an overdress as a first layer. It also creates a beautiful, contrasting layered look when worn over a long-sleeved dress.
Versatile:
From breakfast by the campfire (with an apron and sturdy shoes), to everyday life at camp (with sleeves tucked in), to a formal appearance in an overdress with a headdress - this dress can be flexibly adapted to any situation.
Our reproduction consists of rectangular panels, with side gores in the skirt and sewn-in sleeves. The neckline and lace-up placket are reinforced with additional linen - for dimensional stability and durability. The visible seam allowance has been topstitched flat so that it is barely noticeable from the outside. The eyelets are embroidered by hand, visible seams and hems are machine-stitched.
History:
Linen was commonly used in the Middle Ages, particularly for underwear, headwear and linings - usually undyed. However, there is also evidence of dyed linen garments in certain regions and eras. Today, linen gowns are popular with reenactors and LARPers as they are particularly comfortable to wear in warm weather. Linen is a breathable natural material that wicks away moisture and ensures a pleasant body climate - ideal for summer events.
Material & care
Material: 100 % linen (150 g/m²)
