The Katzbalger is a short one-handed fighting sword from the Renaissance. This short sword was the preferred close combat weapon of the lansquenets of the late 15th and 16th centuries.
The relatively short and wide blade, the S-shaped hand guard and the so-called fish fin pommel are particularly striking.
There are two possible explanations for the special name: Either it is derived from cat leather, which may have been used for the handle or as a scabbard.
However, it is more likely to have originated from the word Katzbalgen, a synonym for brawling and brawling.
Katzbalger was often used by pikemen, archers and crossbowmen as a last defensive weapon when the enemy had already advanced too close for ranged or pole weapons.
The point of our replica is rounded and the striking edge is approx. 2-3 mm.
